Young Riders 4-H club is well represented at The Ohio State Jr. Fair Show

The Young Riders horse club had 5 members qualify against high standards to compete at the Ohio State Fair Jr. Fair show at the Ohio State Fair Grounds.  These kids had an outstanding show with all of them coming home with a top 10 placement with classes as large as 128 entries.  Pictured from left to right is Jeanalle Bonifas, daughter of Larry and Heather Bonifas of Landeck, with her Grand Champion trophy she won in Trail in Hand 9-18.  Reagan Priest, daughter of Bob Priest and Kara Priest of Van Wert, with her Reserve Champion trophy she won the Stakes Race9-13.  Leah Lichtensteiger, daughter of Dave and  Janice Lictensteiger of Ohio City, with her 9th place rosette she won in the Stakes Race 14-18.  Lindsey Motycka, daughter of Joe Motycka of Convoy, with her Reserve Champion trophy she won in Stakes Race 14-18 and her 3rd place rosette from Key Hole 14-18.  Paige Motycka, daughter of Joe Motycka of Convoy, with her 7th place rosette she won in Stakes Race 9-13.  These five youth represented Van Wert County not only with their excellent horsemanship but also with there outstanding sportsmanship. In addition to the 5 members participating in the show we had the following members made the trip to support them;  Emely Bauer, Jordan Hoffman, Kyle Agler, Bryce Mihm, Parker Mihm, Ericka Priest, Cassie Priest and Jacob German.  Congratulations to all!!!

Venedocia Lads & Lassies take a Field Trip!

          The Venedocia Lads and Lassies held another meeting on July 12, at 7:00 p.m.  But for this meeting, they assembled at the Rager residence for a special demonstration.  Adam and Ryan Rager informed the 4-Her’s about their fair animals including cows, turkeys, and chickens.

          Pledges were led by Julia Dickman and Roll Call was taken by Adam Rager.  The Roll Call Question was: “How many days were you without power?”  No Committee or Advisor Reports were given, but Camp Counselor Morgan Pugh did talk about

4-H Camp and encouraged members who did not attend to consider it next year.  Old Business includes Judging at Van Wert High School, Fair Booth decorations, and the planned trip to Winona Lake.  New Business consist of Black Ink applications, Jr. Fair Work Day, deadlines to turn in Officer Books, Animal Move-In is and Chicken Weigh-In is Aug. 28th, Chicken and Poultry Show is Aug. 30th, and the Turkey Show is Aug. 31st

          Besides the tour of the Rager Farm, other demonstrations and reports consist of: Whitney Whelker- Health report on Beef, Audrey Bowsher- Safety report on cattle, Mary Margret Mitchner- Health report on chickens, Tara and Katie Vorst- demonstration on clipping cows and pigs, and Austin Whelker- demonstration on caring for Guinea pigs. The next meeting is Aug. 9th at the Lions Club, 7:00p.m.

          The Lads and Lassies are almost done for the year as they held their second to last meeting on Aug. 9th, 7pm, at the Lions Club. Pledges were led by Abby Bonifas. Julia Dickman read Roll Call and the Roll Call Question was “Did you go to the State Fair?” Of the twenty-six members present, eleven had State qualifying projects.

          A Pizza Party will take place at the last meeting on Aug.23rd to compensate for the cancelled picnic and Winona Lake trip, and also as a treat from Advisor Irene Luersman, as this is her last year with the club. Judging was July 18th, anyone who missed it will be required to go to Make-up Judging. Make-up, Black Inc., Gardening and Crops, and Livestock Judging will occur on Aug.16th.

          Up-coming Fair Dates consist of: Animal Move-In is Aug. 28th, Chicken Weigh-In is Aug. 28th at 4-6pm, Chicken & Poultry Show is Aug. 30th, and the Turkey Show is Aug. 31st at 9am. Many Reports and Demonstrations were given. The two Health reports were given by Allison Bowsher on Sugary Drinks, and Curtis Mueller on Cat Grooming. Betty Vorst did the only Safety Report on Swimming.  Demonstrations were given as follows: Morgan Pugh- Family History, Evan Pugh- Fitness, Dominic Bonifas- Flight, Dominic Adkins-Electricity and Light, Cora Sease- Dogs, and Keaton Adkins- Corn.

          The next and final meeting is scheduled for Aug. 23rd, 7pm, at the Lions Club.
